    Silk Moiré - Part 2 of 2
    Hello everyone!!

About a week ago (or was it 2 weeks ago?) I posted Part One of an order which I had just completed. Part One was dark green silk moiré. Part Two is black silk moiré.

Part Two was delayed a bit because I discovered that it was indeed humanly possible to put on even more exterior boning channels! So off came the binding. Off came the facings and the lining. Off came the exterior channels. And on went even more channels. WOOT! This one has so many channels, you can shake a stick at 'em!

I did my best to make the photos look clear. But I sat on my glasses yesterday, so things might look a wee bit fuzzy to you. My apologies in advance.

Photos behind the cut, including a detail photo and innard photo. Come and laugh at my horrible photo skills! )

Welcome to my "I can't believe the veterinarian charged me that much" Sale! :)

I have two pieces, both built for this size:
    bust 32-35 (A, B, and C cups)
    underbust 26-29
waist 23-27 (23-26 unless you're pretty experienced at tightlacing)
    high hip 32-34
    underbust to waist 7-9
    (all measurements in inches!)

The first: an overbust design in Russian (yes, really! it was a gift from my brother after a vacation) silk/rayon and gold dupioni. It's a lovely turquoise blue brocade with a good shimmer quality, and it has a coutil strength layer and a tan twill lining with fashion fabric facings. Double-stitched seams, lots and lots of spiral and spring steel bones, triple-reinforced 2 part grommets, twill waist tape, silk bindings, modesty placket, and matching grosgrain laces. And look at that sassy-fabulous shape it gives! :) Worn for 15 minutes for photos only.

The second: a tightlacing underbust design in black cotton faille. It's interlined with coutil and lined in twill, and can withstand some mega tightlacing. As many bones as I could fit in it (only about a 1/4" gap between them), sandwiched in coutil external casings, topstitched in black thread. It's all about the contrast here. (Thanks, Tanya, for the advice on this one!) Triple-stitched seams, triple-reinforced 2 part grommets, twill waist tape, cotton binding, modesty placket, matching white lacing strings. The entire piece is 100% cotton for maximum skin breathing! Laced to 22" as pictured. Worn for 15 minutes for photos only.

Retail for both, semi-custom is $350. Accepting best reasonable offer. Please be kind and keep in mine all of the time, energy, and material costs that went into these, folks. Please email offers to info(at)angelafriedman(dot)com . Shipping is $15USD domestic, $20 to Canada, contact me for international. (Usually $40 Europe) And I can ship as early as Monday!

    XL Men's Button-Up...
This is bound to be old news for a lot of you, but this was a sewing revelation for me – It is much easier to make something when you can trace some clothes that you already own. If this is what sewing with a pattern is like, I've seriously been missing out.

I've read plenty of posts where people say they traced a pair of shorts or they used a tank top as a pattern for a new tank top, but I never really understood how you could use other clothes as a pattern without taking it apart. But then when I was making this shirt, I decided to trace the basic body shape of another button up and it saved me a ton of pin and fitting time. Typically I would have put the giant shirt on inside-out and stood in front of the mirror and pinned and pulled in and pinned and pulled in and pinned... Then to make the sleeves, I just roughly traced some cap sleeves off of another shirt. I would normally have started with a tube and shaped it from there, which takes forever and pinning on your own arm is a pain. I still had to work out some issues with these, but it was much easier and faster.

Total, this took me about 5 hours which I find amazing. It also helped that I got the curved hem right on the first shot.

    Sewing machine choices
OKay I am torn between two different sewing machines:

the first is a PFAA 360

    the second is a Singer 500 A

Both are older machines that seem to be well reviewed.

Any thoughts? any experiences with either machine?

I need some help.  I work for an event that is sponsored by a boxer company, and we have to wear these boxers tomorrow.  We just got the outfits in the office today.  Well, I'm 5.5 months pregnant, and I put the boxers on, and I either look like a gangster if they are under my stomach, or I look like humpty dumpty if I pull them over my stomach. I can't have the band around my stomach because it hurts (a lot).

How can I alter boxer shorts so that they look somewhat stylish?

I need the crotch intact because we have to wear suspenders and I don't want the boxers pulled over my head (although I look so terrible in them, I guess I wouldn't mind my face covered!)

Anyway, I know they aren't t-shirts, but they are t-shirt material, and you guys are artistic geniuses.

    Backless shirt?
Hey everyone. I am in dire need of advice. I'm getting a corset piercing on my back sometime in the next couple of weeks and I need to wear a shirt that doesn't have a back to it. Of course I have scoured the stores for something that would work and have not found anything. My piercer suggested that I cut up a t shirt to make it work but I have yet to find a satisfactory technique to do this. All the tutorials I've found require ties that go across the back. If anyone could suggest a way of going this I'd be forever grateful. Thanks!

    Reviews of Alter Ego Erotics?
I'm looking for a low cost black overbust corset with shoulder straps for occasional wear to fetish events. I'm not expecting great reduction and am not using it for tight lacing.

I'm looking for reviews of fit and quality.  I'm guessing they're somewhere between Victoria's Secret and Timeless Trends.

I could wait and save my money for something nicer, but very few corsetmakers seem to make overbusts with shoulder straps, and I'm still stinging a little from a problem with Dark Garden. If I had a ton more money or at least didn't have pay cuts looming (I'm basically an employee from the state of California, for those of you following the budget meltdown over here) I'd try to wait and save, but it seems like Alter Ego might be nice enough to meet my current desires.
(Can you tell I feel guilty at looking at cheap corsets?)

Anyway, I was hoping that someone who owns an AE corset could give me an idea of what they're like.
    Thanks!

    thank you!
I just wanted to post a thank you for the overwhelming number of responses I got to my introductory post about the educational website I am building.

I am only posting questions to each community that are directly related to the community topic but I know a lot of you are really knowledgeable about other parts of the fashion design and construction process. So I wanted to ask that anyone who is interested in helping me along the way with this project (I hope to have it up by the end of summer) to please add me to your friend's list as I post a copy of every post I make to any community in there. Hopefully I can get a big enough friends' list that I do not have to post so often to communities that I feel like I am spamming them.

This will be the last cross-posted post.

    Watchmen - Silhouette
Okay, so. I'm here looking for advice.

I'm interested in making a Silhouette costume for Halloween (she was in the movie briefly, and the comic even less. For anyone who doesn't know who she is, this gif should jog your memory: NSFW Gif Here)

I'm starting ASAP since I know that this will take me forever - I used to be pretty good at sewing, but having done any serious projects in about two years.

The questions I have are these:

    1) Does anyone know if there was a Silhouette action figure made? Google and Amazon aren't giving me anything, so I'm guessing no. But I find that action figures make great references.

    2) Fabric. I do not want to use anything satiny; I'd like to use something that resembles suiting. I can't do 100% polyester or I will sweat to death (it makes me very clammy). For a similar reason, 100% wool is out. Wool blend could be doable, since I could always take the jacket off while inside. Wool/silk/rayon/30% or less polyester are all doable. Or would a "blouse-weight" or "tropical-weight" be okay? (Ordering online is always tough, but saves ridiculous amounts of money) Material with some stretch would also be awesome, but I expect that anything decent would cost ridiculous amounts of money.

    3) Please talk me out of trying to do the top and pants as a one-piece. They look like they should be, and if my skill level was better, I'd go for it without hesitation. But if I attempt that, I'm pretty sure I'll die. Or spend more on muslin than I do on the fabric. And also the top part won't move with me and at some point in the evening I will reach up for something and fall out of it.

    New machine help!!!
Both of my cheapish sewing machines are now broken. I may get them repaired but I was thinking about buying one off craigslist since money is tight. They seem to have tons of deals. I see table singers for 30-150.00 and some old industrial sewing tables for under 100 bucks.

Many of them are old and work well per seller.
Does anyone know if an old singer table machine is actually good for modern day sewing?
Any other ideas on good brands to look out for?
Should I stay away from the old machines?

This is what I am looking for:

A machine that can take a lot of abuse

A machine that can sew thick fake fur and leather

A machine with many stitch options

I also prefer a one or two step button

I would love to be able to sew a corset with the new machine.

I use machines for tons of clothing modification/diy stuff/ trim/ and from patterns

    Any advice is welcome.
